BAF FLASH – October 2026

CHANGE TO ACUPUNCTURE REIMBURSEMENT AT SOLIDARIS VLAANDEREN

Dear Members,

We would like to inform you of an important change regarding Solidaris Vlaanderen’s reimbursement for acupuncture.

As of July 1, 2026, Solidaris Vlaanderen will no longer reimburse acupuncture under supplemental insurance.

Through June 30, 2026, members were eligible to receive a reimbursement of €10 per treatment, up to a maximum of €50 per calendar year, combined for acupuncture, osteopathy, chiropractic care, and hypnotherapy.

As of July 1, 2026, the reimbursement for acupuncture has been completely eliminated. Certain other supplemental reimbursements have also been adjusted, while the reimbursements for osteopathy and chiropractic remain in place.

Solidaris Vlaanderen attributes this change to a “changing framework for the health insurance sector,” without providing any further concrete explanation at this time.

Important: This change does not automatically apply to all Solidaris entities in Belgium.

Solidaris consists of various regional entities, each of which may apply its own terms and conditions and reimbursement rates within its supplemental insurance plans. For example, Solidaris Brabant currently still offers reimbursement for acupuncture, albeit under specific conditions. The regulations of the Walloon Solidaris entities may also differ from those of Solidaris Flanders.

BAF considers it important to clarify this distinction: the discontinuation effective July 1, 2026, that we are reporting here specifically concerns Solidaris Vlaanderen.

For BAF, this decision raises questions about the rationale behind it and about the difference in treatment between acupuncture and other forms of care that will remain covered under supplemental insurance.

In the current, evolving legal and professional landscape surrounding acupuncture, BAF will continue to closely monitor this issue. In doing so, we will continue to defend the interests of our members, the quality of professional practice, and patients’ access to high-quality acupuncture.

We are also examining the current reimbursement conditions at the various Belgian health insurance funds and will inform our members when additional relevant information becomes available.

With collegial regards,
The BAF Board
