Applicants must hold one of the following qualifications: a diploma covered by KB No. 78 concerning the practice of healthcare professions (10 August 2001), more specifically:
Doctor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics
Master’s degree in Physiotherapy
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery
This prior education is required because of the necessary knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology. In addition, it ensures an appropriate therapeutic attitude.
Applicants must have successfully completed an acupuncture training programme:
With a study load of at least 60 credits, with a minimum of 20 credits per year. The programme must be spread over a minimum of three (3) academic years.
With a total study time (ST) of at least 1,500 hours, equivalent to a minimum of 500 contact hours (CH) of 60 minutes (or 600 contact hours of 50 minutes), preferably with one third devoted to practical experience and a practical internship as part of the training programme.
Applicants must provide proof of having completed a supervised internship, by means of internship reports, portfolios, or proof of an internship completed at recognised university clinics in China.
Applicants must submit a final thesis and successfully defend it orally.
The BAF Registration Council assesses each application individually and may apply procedures for the recognition of previously acquired competencies (EVC) or previously acquired qualifications (EVK).
For Chinese diplomas, a five-year full-time training programme, recognised by the State Administration of TCM, is required.
